By Tara Gates Anderson, Entertainment & Lifestyle Editor and Lauren Wingfield, Contributing Writer

Marlon Wayans bares all in his new Netflix comedy Naked, directed by Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House 1 and 2Fifty Shades of Black) with a script by Marlon Wayans, Cory Koller and Rick Alvarez. Naked stars Wayans, Regina Hall, Dennis Haysbert, Jonathan Todd Jackson, Scott Foley, Eliza Coupe, Brian McKnight, Loretta Devine, Cory Hardrict, Minka Kelly and Neil Brown Jr. The film was produced by Wayans, Rick Alvarez, Todd Garner and Ryan Lewis, and was executive produced by Michael Flynn and Sean Robins.

Throughout this funny, lighthearted romantic comedy, Wayans wakes up naked in an elevator on the day of his wedding. He races to make it to the ceremony only to find out that he is stuck repeating the beginning of his wedding leading up to his “I do” with costar and on-screen wife to be, Regina Hall. Wayans must “beat the bell” and retrace his steps to figure out how he got trapped in this elevator in order to save himself from being stuck in a time loop. He makes some hilarious friends along the way that include an unruly gang of bikers, two “ride or die” police officers (you’ll get what I mean), and R&B singer Brian McKnight. After watching, I think it might be a good idea for us all to get naked ourselves. Getting naked also means getting real. The movie touches on topics that many of us can relate to in regards to love, family, and our personal goals. In real life not everyone gets a chance to start over. So here are three reasons why its time to strip and get Naked with Marlon Wayans and the lessons you’ll learn along the way.

Reason 1: For Your Marriage

It’s no secret that marriage is a full-time job, a partnership that will go through its ups and downs. However, you must remember you’re not alone. Marlon Wayans and Regina Hall show us the ups and downs of being in a relationship, and that sometimes the journey to the alter is not as easy as it looks. It may take two or three or even 100 attempts to get to “I do”. Marlon definitely had his fair share of tries in this movie.  Each time running into a different obstacle that taught him important lessons while enlightening him to some harsh realities. Despite how many times it takes, Naked shows you to be real with your partner, and know that despite what you’re going through you will get through all things together.

Reason 2: For Your Family

When is comes to family, your immediate family supports and accepts you for whom you are, most of the time anyway. For you newly extended family they may take a wee bit more time to warm up to you. In Naked, Marlon’s character, Rob Anderson, is often faced with the blunt and judgmental opinions from his family and friends. Marlon and Regina’s family and friends all have a part in creating the chaos of this wedding. Some even going out of their way to sabotage their moment. Not everyone will always be on the same page, but Naked shows you that you can’t allow others to dictate what you do, or tell you what you deserve. They will never be you, and will never be in your shoes. So stay focused on what’s ahead and don’t let someone else’s opinion deter you or even stop you from making it down the isle to wed the person of your dreams.

Reason 3: For Yourself

A lot of times our biggest critic is staring right at us in the mirror. Getting naked with yourself first will help realize what you need to do and analyze what you can do to accomplish anything you set your mind to. Give yourself a little more credit, and in the words of Rob Anderson, “Get out of your own damn way”. As Marlon continuously repeats his wedding day he starts to give up. He then realizes that besides being stuck in continuous loop originally caused by someone else; the main person keeping him from the alter is himself. Wayans shows us that if you want something bad enough you have to go after it. Even if it involves stripping down to nothing in order to get there. Reading the title Naked could lead you to have many different ideas of what this movie could be about. However, it gets a lot deeper than just showing your buns to the world.

I’m sure you didn’t expect to get naked with Marlon, but it might teach you a few more lessons than you thought. Catch Naked by Marlon Wayans on Netflix today Aug. 11, 2017, and after you finish, this is one film you won’t mind looping back to the beginning to view over and over and over again.
